An Historic Symposium
Certified Professional Midwives are gaining significant momentum as primary maternity care providers in the U.S. and educators are positioning themselves to create the expanded CPM workforce for the future. One hundred and fifty midwives, educators and policy makers gathered together to harness the momentum of our time and strategize about how best to transform maternity care on the state and national level. It is clear that something “big” is happening in professional midwifery that reflects national trends in policy, health care, and education. We identified areas of focus that most need our shared attention to fulfill this promise and potential to advance professional midwifery in the United States. This historic Symposium took place March 16-19 near Washington, DC.
